Hosting a virtual paint and sip party at home is a great way to connect with friends, family, and coworkers while bonding through a shared activity. Despite COVID-19 forcing us to swap in-person social gatherings for remote and online social events, you can still host an engaging virtual paint and sip party from home! It is a fun and convenient way to engage with others, no matter the distance.
How to Host a Virtual Paint and Sip Party
- Choose the date, time, and of course, guest list of who to invite!
- Buy your painting supplies. You can purchase complete paint party kits from our shop, which offer free delivery anywhere in the US, or on Amazon.com. For local options, art supplies can also be purchased from Michaels and Joann Fabrics. Refer to step 5 below for the list of supplies needed.
- Choose the painting, and determine how art instruction will be handled. A few options are:
- Book a private paint and sipparty with a company like Paint the Town! This is the most convenient and customizable approach, as it comes with your very own talented, fun artist and event coordinator to handle the legwork for you. We only require 5 people minimum per event.
- Follow along with a pre-recorded painting tutorial video. These are called Paint Anytime sessions, since you can paint anytime, anywhere, with anyone (including solo)! Browse painting choices here, and enjoy the convenience of painting kits shipped to each person.
- Convince an artistic friend or family member to guide you through the painting. This is a great way to explore and discover with your loved ones, while making the party extra intimate, since you know the instructor.
- Choose your virtual paint and sip party meeting platform. We highly recommend Zoom for the best performance and usability, and we will send you the Zoom link for your private party! If hosting avirtual paint and sip partyon your own, you can use any meeting platform: Zoom, Webex, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet, and designate one person to share their screen for painting instruction. Google Meet is free for an unlimited duration, and anyone with a Gmail account can sign in.
- On the day of your party, set up your painting supplies and prepare a fun ambience for the paint and sip.
For painting supplies, you will need:
– Canvas
– Easel (optional)
– Plate with red, yellow, blue, white, black acrylic paint. Each person should have 0.50 oz per color available
– Paint brushes, with at least 1 point brush (round #2 or #4) and 1 flat brush (½ inch or wider)
– Water cup for washing brushes
– Napkins
Don’t forget to cover your table to prevent accidental paint spills, and also wear a shirt you are comfortable getting paint on, just in case.
In terms of ambience, we highly recommend playing music in the background to keep the mood fun and upbeat. Designate one person to be the DJ for your group and play music. You can optimize Zoom for background music through these steps.
Lastly, pair your creative experience with ample snacks and drinks– this is the coveted “sip” part of any paint and sip. Say cheers with your group at the beginning, along with a toast!
- Enjoy the virtual paint and sip party.
Pause, take breaks, and share all your masterpieces with each other. As an added memento for the session, take a group photo (AKA screenshot) of everyone holding up their paintings and smiling proudly. Book a paint and sip party with Paint the Town, and we will do that for you and send the photo after!
