Which Mad Max is best? ›

MAD MAX 2 is a very rare sequel that actually manages to be better than the original film. This here really doesn't happen too often but director George Miller takes everything that made the original so good and adds a ton of adrenaline to the action and makes for quite a memorable movie.

In Fury Road, Immortan Joe was portrayed by Hugh Keays-Byrne, who previously portrayed the Toecutter in the original Mad Max. In Furiosa, the late Keays-Byrne was replaced by Lachy Hulme.

Mel Gibson, Max in the first 3, was born in the US, but grew up in Australia and had an Australian accent with a slight American tinge. George Miller's decision to release a black and white version of Mad Max: Fury Road changed the nature of the film entirely. Removing color intensity in Fury Road showcases craft elements and actors' performances, making it more iconic, but less effective.

The third in Mel Gibson's sci-fi series is the weakest, but it remains a hugely entertaining futuristic spectacular. Fresh score. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome isn't a bad movie.
