After four years and a series of long delays, Digimon Survive is finally here. Though some series fans may be a little unhappy with a few of the creative decisions that were made by the development team, the general consensus seems to be that it's one of the better Digimon games in recent memory. The game's visual novel elements are executed incredibly well and the combat system should have enough depth to keep players engaged for the duration of the main story.

Where Digimon Survive really shines, however, is through its more mature narrative, which is far darker than any of the series' previous installments. The choices players make can have devastating consequences, encouraging them to think about how each decision might affect the game's protagonists. This guide will aim to make that all a little clearer, while also providing information about befriending new Digimon, Digivolution, and tracking down all of the game's collectibles.
Main Story
Digimon Surviveis pretty dark when compared to some of its predecessors and places a lot of emphasis on player choice, with almost every decision having an impact on the narrative. Themain story is made up of thirteen parts including the prologue and will take most players around 40 hours to complete. However, with three possible routes during the first playthrough and a fourth becoming available in New Game Plus mode, those hoping to see the game's true ending will need to complete the main story at least twice.

Digimon Guides
There are 117 Digimon inDigimon Survive, meaning that players hoping to befriend them all are going to have their work cut out for them. Most of them can be acquired through Digivolution, though some will need to be befriended in Free Battles or Shadow Encounters. To do so, players will need to engage the Digimon in conversation, responding to their questions and statements in order to build up a bit of a rapport. If they're successful in doing so, players will get a chance to recruit the Digimon at the end of the conversation or ask it for an item.

Collectibles
Unlike a lot of modern video games,Digimon Survivedoesn't really have too many collectibles outside of the Digimon themselves. All players will really need to worry about are Perceived Memories, which can be found by scanning certain distortions with Takuma's cellphone camera. There are fifteen of them in total, though the most that players will be able to find on a single run is eleven due to six of them being route-specific. Sadly, this means that three full playthroughs will be needed to obtain them all, which will likely take most players around 100 hours to pull off.

Tips & Tricks
Given the game's visual novel format, it should be fairly easy for players to figure most things out for themselves. A lot of the time, they'll simply be pressing buttons to have Takuma speak with other members of the group or go to a specific location. That said, some of the battles can get a little difficult towards the end of the game, particularly for those playing on Hard mode. There are also a few gameplay mechanics that could perhaps be better explained, particularly when it comes to using the camera in Takuma's cellphone.
