    FAQs

What is the best alcohol to use for jello shots? ›

Vodka and white rum are both great options for your alcohol, although other spirits, like gin, whiskey, tequila and brandy all work.

How do you make jello shots come out easier? ›

Try squeezable cups to get your jello shot out easier. Use a flavored vodka (like vanilla or chocolate) to add another layer of flavor to your shot. Serve with toppings like whipped cream and/or sprinkles that you add right before serving.

What is the ratio of alcohol to water in jello shots? ›

In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup cold water and 1/2 cup vodka, or other liquor. Place the mixture in the refrigerator to reach a consistent temperature. Place 1 (3-ounce) package any flavor gelatin in a separate bowl or glass measuring cup, and slowly add the remaining 1 cup boiling water.

How to make vodka jelly with Hartley's cubes? ›

Method. Cut up the jelly and dissolve it in 150ml boiling water. Add 200ml cold water and the vodka, to make up 600ml. Pour into ice-cube trays and leave in the fridge overnight to set.

Should alcohol be cold when making jello shots? ›

Note: The colder your alcohol is, the better the result. I think this has to do with the activation of the gelatin. Personally, when possible, I keep the bottle of alcohol in the freezer for several days before making my shots.

Do you spray cups for jello shots? ›

Pour gelatin mixture into paper or plastic shot cups* and chill in refrigerator until set, 1 hour or more. *Reviewers suggest coating the shot cups lightly with cooking spray so the shots slide right out.

How long do you have to let jello shots sit? ›

How Long for Jello Shots to Set? If you're wondering how long it will take for your jello shots to set, it depends on which type you make, but a general rule is two to four hours. A basic jello shot recipe should be allowed to set in the fridge for at least two hours. Four hours is better.

Should you refrigerate jello shots upside down? ›

And don't worry; cooking spray doesn't add any unwanted flavors to your delicious shot. Next, pour in the alcohol-gelatin mix, secure the lids, and turn the plastic cups upside down before refrigerating the batch. Give them at least three hours to set, and more if required.

Can you put lids on jello shots before they set? ›

Pour the jello mixture into the plastic cups, filling about 3/4 full so there is room for the lid to be put on later. Refrigerate the shots for 2-3 hours or until set. Put a lid on each cup and store in the fridge until ready to serve.

Is 1 cup of vodka too much for jello shots? ›

Jello shots won't set properly if you add too much alcohol. Generally, a basic batch of jello shots is made with one cup of juice or water, one packet of gelatin, 1/2 cup of cold water and 1/2 cup of alcohol. However, jello shots can be made with as much as 2/3 cup alcohol without changing their texture.

Do jello shots get stronger the longer they sit? ›

Jello Shots, like life, are all about balance. That said, if you want a strong one, it is possible if you leave it in the fridge long enough. In a Supercall experiment, we found that the strongest Jello Shot that will set is three-to-one ratio of 80-proof alcohol to water, and it took a full day to become mostly solid.

How many jello shots does a 6 oz box make? ›

1 small box of jello yields about 15 jello shots (2 cups of liquid). 2 boxes (or 1 large 6 oz. box) yield 30 shots, which will fit nicely on a baking sheet to transport them easily to the refrigerator.

How long to leave Hartley's jelly to set? ›

Your jelly should set in the fridge in around 4 hours. Note: you can add fruit or juice, but avoid fresh pineapple, kiwi or papaya as these fruits will stop your jelly from setting.

How long will vodka jelly last once made? ›

Jello shots will last 3-5 days in the fridge for optimal flavor and texture, and up to 7-10 days total. What is this? After the 5-day mark, you may notice them starting to dry out, and the flavor and texture will change.

Does vodka jelly get you drunk? ›

The sugar in these mixes helps to mask the taste of alcohol, and when you tie alcohol up in solid form, it doesn't dissolve as much on your tongue, which means you can't taste the alcohol as much. That means that you can easily get a little too drunk without realizing it.

What is the best cheap vodka for jello shots? ›

A $12 bottle of Absolut or Smirnoff will work just fine. Just don't pick a bottom shelf big plastic bottle. The cheaper vodka will come through in the shots and punch you in the face. You want a vodka that's a little smoother.

Does alcohol stop jello setting? ›

Alcohol can interfere with the setting properties of gelatin, so don't increase the proportion of alcohol to non-alcoholic liquid past this. You can, however, decrease the amount of alcohol. The maximum formula makes pretty strong shots; each has 1/2 ounce of hard liquor.

Is titos good for jello shots? ›

All right, add your jello. Mix 2 cups of boiling water. I put one cup of Smirnoff cherry vodka. Then, of course, Tito, because that's our favorite Tito Cup of that.
