One of the few surviving buildings, the auction hall was still busy as a relief centre. And resident and founding promoter Roy Roycroft lost a personal collection in January's fires. The crowd was down a little, at around 175 on each day. But the downturn in attendees was made up for by many absentee bids, such that the two-day sale gross of $350,000 was on a par with previous totals. The top price was $24,975, for a green J Dempsey of Kalgoorlie bottle decorated with the emblem of a dog's head - claimed as a world auction record for a stoneware ginger beer bottle and the second highest price for any stoneware bottle. A sign showing a prize Boonoke 1 stud ram "dipped in Cooper's" was passed in at $8000 against an estimate of $8000 to $12,000.
