If I think about my recent trip to Lisbon, the very main reason why I went there (March) is in this post. Pastéis de Belém made the best Portuguese tarts in the world. I will not miss the chance to try the famous Portuguese tart. I was actually vacationing in Porto, but I took a train to Lisbon and stay there for one night, all of those just for Pastéis de Belém.
To be very clear, Pastéis de Belém is not exactly in Lisbon. You still need to take a train from Cais do Sodré to Belém. Once you arrive in Belém, all you have to do is walk a little bit to Pastéis de Belém. Pastéis de Belém blue canopy is very distinguish and you can spot it right away. Just be ready to wait for the long line. If you rather to sit and dine, Pastéis de Belém have table service. It will be better if you book a table beforehand, or you will wait for other people to finish their meal.
Heck yeah it is! I am not brainwashed by all the media that said it’s the best Portuguese tart. But because it is honestly the best Portuguese tart compared to all the tart that I tried when I was in Portugal. Other tarts are too eggy or too sweet or too mushy. Pastéis de Belém Portuguese tart has this perfect balance between sweetness of the filling, the outer part, the crust and you can’t really taste or scentthe egg smell. Especially with all the waiting line that builds up your anticipation to try the tart.
The price of Pastéis de Belém tart is not expensive at all. You can get the best Portuguese tart in the world with just €1.05. If one tart is not enough, you can buy 6 tarts (packaged like the picture below) for€6.30. Still not enough and a huge fan of Portuguese tart or one big group of people? You can buy 50 tarts for €52.50. Now you must be thinking, “SHOW ME THE TART ALREADY” (cause I realized I haven’t put the tart picture in above), well here you go…
There’s something about a store that sells one particular dish that makes everyone from all over the world wanting to try it. Another example of those kind of store is Luini’s Panzerotti in Milan, it’s a must-eat in Milan.
