After catching up with the thread Sheesharee started on Dove soap I was reminded about my recent product disillusionment.
Ovaltine used to be our family's choice for a quick breakfast, meal replacement, hot cocoa substitute, etc. - not any longer. Nestle USA bought Ovaltine in 2008 and has been making changes, first in its packaging and now in its contents. Maybe Nestle figured that if consumers got used to seeing the old formula in a new jar, they wouldn't pay attention when the contents were changed.
The "Nutrition Facts" for the "old" Chocolate Malt Ovaltine powder used to state that it contained the following % of RDAs: 60% of Thiamin; 50% of Vitamin D; 45% of Vitamins A, C, B2 and B6 + Niacin; and 15% of Iron. The serving size used to be 4 Tbsp, it's now 2 Tbsp. I guess they wanted to reduce the calories per serving on the label from 80 to 40. Nestle sells their reformulated product as a "New Improved Recipe" (?) Chocolate Malt Ovaltine. All of those nutrient values have been decreased to only 10%, except for B2 which is now 0. I don't see how just cutting the serving size in half would reduce the nutrients from their previous 45%-60% of RDA to only 10% (at best.) It looks like Nestle is selling its cheap Nesquik milk flavoring, or something very close to it, as Ovaltine to take advantage of Ovaltine's 100+ yrs. reputation.
It's bad enough that Nestle degraded the nutritional value of Ovaltine, but it's incredibly deceitful, IMHO, to sell the new mix as an improvement over the old.
